College Record 2013

The publication of the College Record is always a much-anticipated event. Each edition tries to chronicle the main happenings and the good news stories relating to College life during the previous school year.  With this in mind, I welcome the St Kieran’s College Record 2013 – our 230th academic year.

This past year has again been one of many blessings.  The various articles and photographs published speak for themselves.  Thankfully, with the ongoing support of the Trustees and grant aid from the Department of Education and Skills, we have managed to continue a programme of upgrading and refurbishment of our student facilities.   For the financial year ending 31st August 2012 additions to our School Buildings cost €34,496  and for Computer/IT Expenses, ICT infrastructure and Technology the costs incurred were € 66,575.  Also, a contract was agreed and signed following another successful submission to the DES. This was for the provision of accessible toilets, lift and special needs access for our students.

St Kieran’s College continues to have a special place in the hearts and minds of many people, not just past students.  Many visitors are impressed on seeing the whole campus and the ongoing developments.  The College environment and the community of students and staff elicit much positive comment. This does not happen by accident. It takes much hard work at all levels and particular commitment to our traditions and shared values.  Therefore,  I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to the Principal, Mr John Curtis, the Deputy Principal, Mr Adrian  Finan, the teachers and staff, my brother priest   Fr Dermot Ryan and the  Chaplaincy Team, the students and their Council, our parents and guardians and their Association, my colleagues on the Board of Management, my fellow Trustees and Bishop  Seámus  Freeman, our Patron.

The economic climate continues to impact on most sectors of society in our country.  The areas of  Healthcare and  Education provision, in particular, remain under severe pressure due to budgetary constraints.  These in turn invariably make the lives of all associated or involved with St Kieran’s College and in the care and education of our students more challenging. But in spite of all the related demands and pressures the pages of the 2013 edition of  The College Record allow us insight into how effective a team we have in place and to how well St Kieran’s has responded to and celebrated its mission during this past year.

Enjoy reading The Record. A special thank you to all who made the publication possible.

Let us bless the Lord.

Monsignor  Kieron J. Kennedy

Chairman,
Board of Management and Trustee
